Coastal invites you to the 40 day journey of “soul repairing” we call Lent, beginning with the marking of Ashes at the Ash Wednesday service. In this moment we enter into a restored humility and recognition that our hearts need to be renewed in repentance and faith.
In Lent we identify with Christ’s own 40 days in the wilderness where he denied himself through fasting and consecrated his life for the Father’s will. While it is traditional for Christians during Lent to deny themselves some usual means of pleasure, the actual goal of Lent is more than ritual. It is a recognition that we too easily become complacent and at ease. It is an ever re-practicing of bringing the soul to alertness so that God can be served more faithfully and the Gospel lived out more energetically.
Lent terminates at Easter where we re-enter into the joy of resurrection life.
A Lenten devotional guide is made available at the Ministry Center to help the Christian focus and ponder during the 40 days.
