Coastal is a nondenominational communitychurch. Our people come from multiple church backgrounds and no church backgrounds. The common tie that binds us together is our central focus on Jesus of Nazareth as the full revelation of God’s character and God’s pattern for a purposeful, significant and soul-satisfying life. We find that revelation and pattern in the Bible, a book that over thousands of years has proven to be a well of deep wisdom and truth. It quite literally is the book that has changed the world-and continues to change it today. While our worship service is simple and direct and our music is contemporary, we are also guided by many of the time-honored practices of corporate worship that keep our worship balanced, God directed and free from fads and trendiness that can trivialize the encounter between worshipers and God. Coastal seeks to be deep in history at the same time that it responds to the realities of our day. We have found useful the guidance of the calendar of the church year, the use of the lectionary in reading the Bible, the confession of both the Apostles and Nicene Creeds, the praying together of the Lord’s Prayer, and the weekly observance of the Lord’s Supper (Eucharist). The Pastor’s Sunday message seeks to build up believers through careful attention to the text of the Bible and to introduce to both the skeptic and the novice its amazing wisdom. Coastal utilizes the tools of technology for communication that integrate music, videos and images that keep all the senses and the mind engaged. We realize that people new to Coastal can feel awkward or nervous so we do our best to make a Sunday worship experience as natural as possible without singling out guests or leaving them clueless on how to join in the service.
