Many Coasters practice fixed-hour prayer, often called The Divine Hours. This is an ancient practice of the church that divides up the day into eight 3 hour segments, each with a short liturgy of prayer based upon the Psalms. While the monastic traditions observe all 8 offices, most Christians find the fixed hours of morning, noon, and night as a satisfying and complete cycle of prayer. At Coastal we make use of Phyllis Tickle’s The Divine Hours.
